Clean personal info before pasting into ChatGPT

Updated July 1, 2026 - AI safety guide

Short answer: Before you paste into ChatGPT, remove private details that the answer does not need: names, emails, phone numbers, addresses, ID numbers, account numbers, client details, and hidden info inside files. Safemii helps you clean the text, photo, or PDF on your phone first.

Use this checklist

When ChatGPT does not need the real details

If you are asking for a summary, rewrite, explanation, checklist, or draft reply, the AI usually does not need the real name, address, number, or location. A placeholder keeps the meaning while removing the private part.

Good replacement patterns

Original detailSafer version
Jane Smith at 123 Main Street[tenant] at [address]
Policy number ABC-92831[policy number]
Order #778493 for my laptop[order number] for my laptop
My doctor's name and clinic[doctor] and [clinic]

Common ChatGPT tasks that do not need identity

In each case, the AI can usually help with structure and wording without seeing the real phone number, account number, address, full name, or signature. Keep details only when they are required for the task, and even then consider using a label instead of the exact value.

Files need cleanup too

Text pasted into ChatGPT is only one path. PDFs and photos can carry hidden data that is not visible in the message box. A PDF may include author fields, comments, form values, or attachments. A photo may include GPS coordinates, capture time, device details, or a thumbnail. Clean the file itself before uploading it.

Do not use the original as a test prompt

A common mistake is pasting the real message first to see what ChatGPT will do, then cleaning it later. That is backwards. Make the clean copy first, review it, and use that version as the prompt from the start.

Where Safemii fits

Safemii is the cleanup step before ChatGPT. It finds private details, lets you remove or replace them, and saves a clean copy. The original stays on your phone.
